1. About the barista 좋은뉴스
Barista means ‘one who makes in a bar’ in Italian. If you look at the meaning of making something in a bar, it is the same as a bartender who makes cocktails, but it is used as a separate concept. In other words, a barista is a person who makes coffee inside a bar. More precisely, it refers to the person who determines the taste and aroma of the brewed coffee.

The first thing a barista does to make delicious coffee is to choose good beans. To do this, you must always be familiar with the characteristics of the coffee producing area and the roasting (the process of roasting green beans). It is also the responsibility of the barista to determine the extraction method that suits the characteristics of the coffee beans, so the amount of water, temperature, and extraction time must be adjusted according to the extraction method such as hand drip or espresso.

Baristas also usually deliver finished coffee directly to customers. It is both a manufacturing industry and a service industry. The barista recommends coffee according to the customer’s taste and sometimes makes a relationship by exchanging regards at the bar. It is similar to a chef in that it brings out the best flavor from the best ingredients, but it is also like a wine sommelier in that it requires face-to-face service with customers.

2. Types of barista licenses
In the case of barista certification, both domestic and international are not nationally recognized certifications. In other words, you can think of it as a private qualification hosted by a private association. Also, since there are so many types of private associations, it can be said that it is important to acquire a credible barista license among them.

1) Domestic license
In the case of domestic barista certification, it is divided into 2nd class and 1st class, and there are many associations that issue certifications, but the most famous among them are the Korea Barista Certification Examination Association and the Korea Coffee Association.

① Korea Barista Qualification Testing Association
This certification is similar to the international barista certification, so it is a certification that most people acquire. In particular, it is characterized by a license that does not expire, and the test is conducted as a written test and a practical test. The written test consists of adjusting the grinder and extracting espresso, and the practical test consists of making cappuccino.

② Korea Coffee Association
The Korea Coffee Association certification is also a certification that is often acquired in Korea. This license is valid for life as it does not expire. The difference from the Korea Barista Certification Examination Association is that you can take the test only at the place where you use coffee beans, machines, grinders, etc.

2) International qualification
① SCA (Specialty Coffee Association)
SCA is a world-renowned association created by integrating the American and European Coffee Associations, and is a representative of barista certification with a certification that is used in more than 75 countries. The fields include Barista Skills, Brewing, Green Coffee, Roasting, and Sensory Skills, and the levels are Foundation (Lv1), intermediate (Lv2), and Professional (Lv3). Usually, Lv1 or 2 is acquired, and Lv3 is said to be a fairly high level of difficulty.

② GCS (Global Coffee School)
The basic foundation of GCS is similar to SCA, and the courses consist of Barista, Brewing, Roasting, Classifier, and Science. Although it started later than other international certifications, it is a certification that has recently become popular. This also consists of 3 levels of Lv. As a feature, when extracting espresso, the unit is g instead of ml.

③ IBS (Italian Barista School)
IBS includes Barista, Roasting, Sensory, Brewing, and Latte Art. Basically, like SCA, you learn basic extraction time, grinding degree adjustment, and how to store beans, and you learn these skills in the Italian way. In addition, IBS makes coffee cocktails because they mix coffee and liquor, but it is difficult for minors to learn.

3. What is government support?
Government subsidy is a system in which the Ministry of Employment and Labor issues ‘Tomorrow Learning Card’ to trainees so that they can learn education and classes within the academy with government subsidies. The budget supported for government-sponsored education is the employment insurance fund borne by companies. In other words, the reason for government-sponsored education with the employment insurance fund borne by the company is to educate job seekers or unemployed people so that they can be employed by the company. And by educating incumbents to improve productivity and prepare them in advance to make it easier for them to return to work if they lose their jobs. Those who want to receive government-sponsored education can participate in the education by issuing the National Tomorrow Learning Card, and the educational institution first provides education and then claims the education expenses they should receive from the Ministry of Employment and Labor (hrd-net).

4. What is the National Tomorrow Learning Card?
It is a card that anyone can apply for, and it is a card that can receive vocational training by supporting training expenses of 3 to 5 million won per person. Regardless of whether you are unemployed, employed or self-employed, you can use one card for 5 years, and you can select and take training tailored to you through a consultation process.

5. How to save money with government funding for baristas
